Discovering Paula Series
Paula's Magic
is the second of a series of paintings of my niece. The painting is life sized and was painted from life. The first painting entitled Paula's World won two prestigious prizes. Paula's World now resides in air conditioned comfort at the Ernest Henry public collection in Cloncurry, Queensland.
Both paintings were my entry for the Doug Moran Portrait Prize.
Paula's Magic was highly commended at the Mackay Artists and Art competition after which it can no longer be entered into competition as most competitions only accept the last 12 months' work.
I am particularly proud of the beautiful oil glaze shadows in this painting.
Paula's World.
This is the best photo I have of Paula's World. I must have lost any better ones I took. After this painting won the open section at the Ernest Henry Art Competition in Cloncurry, I sent a new film with a covering letter to the organizers to please photograph my painting for me - I didn't get a reply.
So there you go - two big prizes and it's in a public art collection and this is the best photo I've got!
This painting is done entirely with oil paints and took 300 hours over 3 months.
