Tafe -Certificate III - projects
I completed a Certificate III in Arts at Mackay TAFE in 2000.
This painting forms part of my major project. At the time, I was trying lots of dance forms - ballroom foxtrot and tango, line dancing, belly dancing, rock and roll, swing dancing and Lindy Hop.
The concept of the project was to illustrate the movement of dance. The surrounding images are of my dance partner and myself dancing a rock and roll routine. The images were photographed on an automatic setting. The photographs were then collaged onto four pre-painted canvasses which are screwed to the central painting.
This painting is only half of the project. The other was a full size papier mache model of two dancing figures similar to the central painting.
At the TAFE graduation, I quite bravely continued my theme by hiring a long yellow dress from a costume business. You should have seen my tutor's face when she saw the dress! Everyone else was dressed in the obligatory little black dress and there was me in a long, bright yellow, non-couture dress! Ah, what we do for our art.
